Ljubljana - the undiscovered gem of europe

I know I should be coding/writing now but my blogging bug bitten me so hard that I can't stop the itch. lol. so here it goes.

I was visiting the Maribor Uni (Maribor is the 2nd largest city in Slovenia) and took some time off to the capital of Slovenia.

Ok. Let me first answer this question - where is Slovenia??

(circled in purple. I know. Such a gay colour. lol.)
Located in center europe, it's below Austria and next to Italy and Croatia. People speaks Slovene (under Slavic family) but the younger generations are pretty good in English. Yes, much better than the other european cities. Although the country has only 2 million people and is relatively small, it offers one of the best cuisine (I guarantee this) and awesome sceneries (alps, lakes (bled!!), caves etc). I didn't have much time to explore around but have already fell in love with the country.

Took a train from Maribor to Ljubljana:

Note: 'j' is pronounced as 'yi', so Ljubljana is pronounced as Lyublyana or I think easier as Liubliana.

one of the main attractions - Dragon Bridge, one of the famous three bridges of Lj. Coincidently it rained so heavily when we got to Lj - maybe the dark clouds are called by the dragon. spooky. lol.

There's an ancient castle on the nearby hill (walking distance. in fact, the city wasn't very big so it is possible to explore the city on foot). There's cable car that brings you up for around five euro I think. Bad memory edi T.T

Going up to the top of the castle

At one of the many art galleries in the castle. Apparently people here are very artsy. So many nice nice galleries pulak.

And then it rained cats and dogs so we were trapped in the castle. Decided to check out the cafe.

Surprisingly, the food wasn't too pricey for such nice environment. Just 2 euro for a glass of wine.

And continue to cw a bit since it's still raining out there.

Back to the hotel. Stayed at Hotel Park for around 70euro per night. Oh btw, taxis here are cheap. Just 5 euro from train station to hotel, and 5 = pet in slovene. lol I remember this so well.

In short, it's a really lovely nice little city with lots to offer, and the best thing is, it's not packed with tourist like some other european cities. Therefore it's really really clean and adorable =p. Will write up on the town center next!
